CHOMP - Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula
Monterey, California
The design team’s challenge was to double the size of the existing hospital, plus completely renovate the remaining facility. The design team embraced the client’s much beloved legacy of the original 1960’s Edward Durell Stone architecture.
The original concrete embossed concentric square patterns and the broad cantilevered roof overhangs were seamlessly incorporated, while simultaneously bringing the medical planning and healthcare technology into the 21st century.
The new 120 bed Forest Pavilion, new South Pavilion diagnostic & treatment wing, plus the extensive existing building renovation resulted in the desired unified sense of place.
